The Long Paddle 2021 begins: Brendon Prince paddles out of Torquay
Torquay local Brendon Prince set off from his home port this morning on a journey that will take him 11,000 miles around the British mainland on a standup paddleboard.
The weather has already proven troublesome for Brendon who started his ‘long paddle’ a few days late due to choppy waters and high winds.
The former teacher and water safety campaigner is due back in Torquay in (hopefully) early July after taking ‘the long way round’.
If he does make it, he’ll break three different world records in the process – but Brendon isn’t seeking fame or notoriety.
He’s fundraising for a UK-based water safety app he hopes to develop, as well as several different ocean charities including Christian Surfers UK and Surfers Against Sewerage.
Brendon is also raising awareness for water safety here in Great Britain which he describes as an ‘island nation’.
Brendon’s life was altered considerably after he was unable to save the lives of three fellow ocean-goers at Mawgan Porth beach in October 2014.
An off-duty lifeguard at the time, the father of three was surfing when he heard screaming from the beach.
He has dedicated his life to water safety ever since, founding the charity Above Water and mentoring young people in schools.
When The Long Paddle Campaign first approached Priority Pixels we jumped at the opportunity to be involved in such a fantastic endeavour.
With just two weeks to build the website, our team got to work developing a site that would raise awareness for Brendon’s campaign.
We aimed to drum up support in the form of sponsorship and donations from local businesses and communities with a dynamic design that would emulate Brendon’s free-spirited character.
Included on the site is a payment portal as well as a geo tracker where supporters of the campaign can check in on Brendon and his team.
Priority Pixels is a proud sponsor of The Long Paddle Campaign, and are looking forward to welcoming Brendon back to Torquay with teammates Harry and Will in July.
