Client Overview
Transaid is an international development organisation dedicated to improving road safety and access to healthcare in sub-Saharan Africa. Founded in 1998 by Save the Children and The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT), with HRH The Princess Royal as its Patron, Transaid has trained over 60,000 professional drivers and supports Emergency Transport Schemes to help pregnant women and children reach life-saving medical care.
Following a competitive tender process, Priority Pixels was appointed to design and develop a user-friendly, responsive website that aligns with Transaid’s recently refreshed branding. The key objectives were to effectively communicate their mission and impact, build credibility with stakeholders and provide an intuitive content management system for the Transaid team.
Visit Website

Working with Priority Pixels on the development of Transaid’s new website has been a wonderful experience from start to finish. From the very first consultation, the team worked hard to understand our mission and goals as a charity and they translated that insight into a modern, user-friendly website that reflects who we are and what we stand for. The project was managed with outstanding professionalism and attention to detail. Priority Pixels was highly responsive throughout, always quick to answer questions, make changes and offer expert guidance. They took the time to understand our specific needs – ensuring the site is accessible, mobile-optimised and easy to update for our internal team.
They welcomed our feedback at every stage and consistently offered solutions that balanced creativity with practicality. We’re really pleased with the final result, the vibrant new website not only elevates our digital presence but also makes it easier for supporters to engage and understand our work and for us to showcase our programmes and their impact. We’ve already seen a positive response from stakeholders and partners and we’re confident the new site will continue to support our growth and outreach. I totally recommend Priority Pixels to any organisation looking for a thoughtful, innovative and reliable digital partner.

UX Design
Brand consistency was a key focus of the website redesign. While Transaid had implemented its new branding on reports, brochures and social media content, it had not yet been fully integrated into the website. This visual disconnect weakened brand recognition and led to an inconsistent user experience. To address this, we incorporated Transaid’s signature brand assets throughout the new design and optimised them for web, ensuring a cohesive, attractive presence across both print and digital.
Special attention was also given to the site’s navigation. Previously, high-priority pages were buried within multiple layers of navigation, which made it difficult for stakeholders to locate the information most relevant to them. We restructured the menu and surfaced critical pages to create a clearer and more intuitive browsing experience.
To further enhance UX, we added a map of Africa showcasing Transaid’s active and completed programmes. Placed prominently on the homepage, this visually engaging feature allows visitors to grasp the scale and reach of Transaid’s work at a glance.
WordPress Development
Over the years, multiple updates and third-party modifications had been made to Transaid’s WordPress site, resulting in broken code and an increasingly unstable CMS. Rather than implementing the new design on a fragmented and outdated system, our in-house dev team rebuilt the site from the ground up to create a high-performing, purpose-built platform tailored to Transaid’s needs.
The Knowledge Centre is an important section of the website and part of Transaid’s mission to keep knowledge open and accessible for all. In order to effectively manage the 421+ documents, including training manuals, assessment tools, case studies and research papers, we developed a structured digital library with filtering, categorisation and search functionality.
On the backend, we built custom post types and content management tools, enabling Transaid’s team to quickly upload, organise and update resources without technical assistance.
Built to Meet WCAG 2.2 AA Accessibility Standards
The website was built to meet WCAG 2.2 AA standards, ensuring it is accessible to as many users as possible, including those with visual, motor or cognitive impairments. From keyboard navigation and ARIA labels to clearly structured content and compliant colour contrasts, accessibility was considered at every stage of the design and development process. These improvements make it easier for users with assistive technologies to engage with the site, whether they’re reading about Transaid’s projects or making a donation.
Building to WCAG 2.2 AA standards doesn’t just benefit users with disabilities, it improves usability across the board. Clear visual hierarchies, accessible fonts and mobile-friendly layouts all contribute to a better experience for everyone. These adjustments often result in longer session durations, lower bounce rates and improved search visibility, all of which support Transaid’s wider goals around awareness, engagement and fundraising.
Accessibility also plays an important role in trust and credibility. As a charity working across borders and communities, it’s vital that Transaid’s digital presence reflects its inclusive mission. By meeting modern accessibility standards, the site demonstrates a commitment to openness, responsibility and best practice, while also ensuring compliance with UK regulations governing digital accessibility for non-profits and public-facing organisations.
