How are our websites developed?

In order to build every website, Priority Pixels uses a set of open-source software called a LAMP stack. An acronym, LAMP typically consists of four software components: a Linux operating system, an Apache HTTP server, a MySQL database system and PHP programming language. All these elements sit in layers and support each other.

All Priority Pixels websites are custom-made, designed in Figma by our in-house graphic designers and developed using custom HTML5, CSS3 and PHP by our in-house web developers. We do not use themes, page builders or third-party code. If you are seeking quotes from other agencies, we recommend you check what you are getting as a website built with a page builder such as Elementor or WP Bakery is not custom and is very likely to cause you issues in the future.

To help keep costs as competitive as possible we do not build custom-made content management systems (CMS). A bespoke CMS would take a considerable time to create and increase the project costs. Unlike an open-source CMS, a bespoke system would tie you the client, to us the agency because we would own that system. An open-source CMS gives you the freedom to move to another agency should you wish to.

Our open-source CMS of choice is WordPress. The reason we use WordPress is because it is the most widely used and extensively developed CMS available in the world today. WordPress enhances search engine optimisation efforts and comes with a CMS that enables clients to update their content with ease.

We use the Advanced Custom Fields plugin to improve admin functionality even further, paying particular attention to usability and ensuring that your website is as easy to manage as possible.

Full website redesign for globally renowned children's play centre franchise

Gymboree Play & Music first came to Priority Pixels seeking help with their website. The brand currently encompasses multiple franchises in over 30 different countries, with branches in the USA, Canada, China and the United Kingdom among others.

Visually, Gymboree Play & Music’s web presence needed a significant refresh. The web development team at Priority Pixels were asked to build a modern, aesthetically appealing website that was search engine optimised, utilised white space and simplified the user journey. The previous website was cluttered and difficult to navigate, not to mention visually outdated. • Project Management

Undertaking any web design project can be a lengthy process covering lots of different areas. To make sure all bases are covered from the start, working closely with you, we’ll create an in-depth project brief covering all your requirements. Then we’ll put a project management plan in place for everything from goals and deadlines, to the areas of work covered and costs involved.

We can also kickstart a discovery phase if the project needs it. This is where we talk with your business’ stakeholders to understand the requirements at a deeper level. If necessary, we might need to complete some smaller tasks to help identify if further work in one or more areas is required.

When all the project areas have been defined, we’ll provide you with a detailed proposal with our recommendations together with a timeline of schedules, deadlines, and costs. It’s really a document that explains both our and your project expectations so everyone can clearly understand the ultimate goals.

  • WordPress

At Priority Pixels, we use WordPress as our preferred platform for web development due to its flexibility, scalability, and robust functionality. Powering over 40% of the world’s websites, WordPress is the most popular content management system (CMS) globally, and for good reason. It offers the perfect balance between ease of use and powerful capabilities, making it suitable for a wide range of websites, from small business pages and blogs to complex e-commerce platforms and corporate sites.

One of the main reasons we choose WordPress is its unmatched customisation potential. The platform offers a vast array of themes and plugins, enabling us to create tailored solutions that reflect your brand and meet your specific needs. Whether you’re looking for an e-commerce store, a booking system, or an online portfolio, WordPress has the flexibility to bring your vision to life.

SEO is a crucial element of any website, and WordPress is designed with this in mind. Its structure allows for clean code, mobile responsiveness, and user-friendly navigation—all essential for strong search engine rankings. With a variety of plugins like Yoast SEO, optimising each page and post becomes straightforward, helping your site to gain visibility and attract organic traffic.

The user-friendly CMS is another key reason we use WordPress. It empowers our clients to easily manage their content without any technical knowledge. After your site is launched, you can add, update, or remove content as needed, saving time and reducing the need for a developer. We also provide training on how to use WordPress effectively, giving you full control over your website’s content.

WordPress’s scalable architecture makes it an excellent choice for businesses of all sizes. Whether you’re a startup aiming to expand or a large enterprise with growth plans, WordPress allows for easy expansion of content types and functionalities. This ensures that your site can grow alongside your business and remain future-proof as your digital needs evolve.

Security and reliability are essential elements of any website and WordPress delivers on both fronts. We employ robust security measures and plugins to protect your site from vulnerabilities and threats. The platform itself is frequently updated to address security issues, ensuring your website remains safe and reliable.

In summary, WordPress is our platform of choice because it allows us to deliver high-quality, secure and user-friendly websites that are tailored to your business needs. It’s a versatile and powerful solution, offering the flexibility and functionality required to grow your online presence effectively. With WordPress, we can build a website that not only looks great but also performs optimally, engaging your audience and supporting your business goals.

  • Website Performance

WordPress performance is critical for user experience, search engine rankings and overall success. A fast, responsive website keeps visitors engaged and reduces bounce rates, which is why optimising WordPress performance is essential. At Priority Pixels, we use tools like WP Rocket to enhance site speed through page caching. Caching creates static versions of your dynamic content, reducing server load and delivering pages to users more quickly. WP Rocket goes beyond basic caching by offering features like cache preloading, file compression and database optimisation, all of which contribute to quicker load times and a smoother browsing experience. With WP Rocket’s intuitive setup, your WordPress site benefits from significant speed improvements without the need for complex configurations.

In addition to caching, a Content Delivery Network (CDN) like Cloudflare can further boost your site’s performance. A CDN works by distributing your website’s content across a global network of servers, ensuring that users access your site from a server that is geographically closest to them. This not only decreases load times but also reduces the burden on your main hosting server. Cloudflare, one of the leading CDNs, offers added benefits like security features, DDoS protection and automatic image optimisation, all of which contribute to a more robust and efficient WordPress website. By combining page caching with a reliable CDN, your website can achieve optimal performance and security, providing a seamless experience for visitors worldwide.

  • LAMP Stack

At Priority Pixels, our goal is to build websites that not only look exceptional but also perform seamlessly. To achieve this, our development team relies on a set of open-source software known as a LAMP stack. This powerful combination of technologies allows us to create secure, efficient, and scalable websites that deliver optimal performance across all platforms.

LAMP is an acronym for four key software components: Linux, Apache, MySQL, and PHP. Each of these elements plays a crucial role within the stack, working together in layers to provide a robust environment for web development.

    Linux

At the foundation of every LAMP stack is Linux, a free and open-source operating system that serves as the bedrock for all other components. Its flexibility, security, and stability make it the ideal platform for web development. As the base layer, Linux supports the entire stack, allowing other software elements to run on top of it seamlessly.

    Apache

The next layer in the stack is Apache, one of the most widely used web server systems globally. As open-source software, Apache sits on top of the Linux operating system and is responsible for handling incoming web requests. When someone types a URL into their browser, Apache interprets this request and directs it to the correct files on the server, ensuring that the website content is accurately displayed to the user.

    MySQL

The third component of the LAMP stack is MySQL, a powerful relational database management system. It stores all the essential information and data that make up a website, such as user accounts, product details, and content. When PHP scripts or applications require data, MySQL retrieves the relevant information, enabling the dynamic content generation that powers database-driven websites. Its reliability and speed make it the preferred choice for handling large volumes of data efficiently.

    PHP

Completing the LAMP stack is PHP, a server-side scripting language that is central to web development. PHP scripts are embedded within HTML, which is the language used to build the structure and layout of web pages. When a user accesses a website,

What sets your web development services apart from others?

At Priority Pixels, our team of skilled developers work collaboratively to create unique and customised websites tailored to your business needs. We focus on responsive design, intuitive navigation and optimal performance to deliver an exceptional user experience that sets your website apart from the competition.

How long does it take to develop a website?

The timeline for developing a website varies depending on the complexity and size of the project. On average, a basic website might take 4-6 weeks, while more complex sites, such as e-commerce platforms, could take 8-12 weeks or more, including time for design, development, testing and revisions.

Will my website be mobile-friendly?

Yes, every website we build is mobile-friendly and responsive. This means that the site will automatically adjust its layout and design to look and perform well on various devices, including desktops, tablets and smartphones, ensuring an optimal user experience.

What is the difference between front-end and back-end development?

Front-end development focuses on the visual aspects of a website that users interact with, such as layout, design and user interface. Back-end development involves the server-side aspects, including databases, server logic and applications that power the front-end, enabling it to function smoothly.

Will I be able to edit and manage the content on my website?

Absolutely. All of our websites are built using WordPress, which allows you to easily manage and update content without needing technical skills. We also provide training on how to use WordPress effectively.

How do you ensure the security of my website?

Security is a top priority and we implement multiple layers of protection for your website. This includes regular updates, firewalls, malware monitoring, IP blocking and secure hosting to prevent vulnerabilities and attacks. We also provide ongoing security maintenance to keep your site safe.

What is your process for web development projects?

Our process includes initial consultations to understand your needs, followed by planning, design, development, testing, and launch. We use an agile approach to project management, which allows for continuous feedback and improvements throughout the development cycle, ensuring the final product meets your requirements.

How much does it cost to develop a website?

The cost of developing a website depends on several factors, including the complexity, features and design requirements. We provide a tailored quote based on your specific needs and goals, ensuring transparency and clarity from the start.

What is the difference between a static and dynamic website?

A static website consists of fixed pages with content that doesn’t change unless manually updated. A dynamic website, on the other hand, uses server-side scripting (like PHP) to pull content from a database, making it possible to update content easily and interactively without altering the code.

What happens if my website experiences an issue or goes offline?

Our hosting and maintenance packages include support for any issues that may arise. If your site experiences downtime, security breaches, or other technical problems, our team is available to diagnose and resolve these issues quickly, ensuring minimal disruption to your online presence.
