International Day of the Seafarer 2026: Celebrating the People Who Keep Global Trade Moving
On 25 June 2026, the shipping industry pauses to mark International Day of the Seafarer. It is an annual moment set aside by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) to recognise the crews at sea who move roughly 80 percent of world trade, often far from home and rarely seen by the public.
The day was established in 2010 by resolution of the IMO and has grown into a global campaign that coordinates employers, flag states, unions and ports around a shared annual theme. You can read more about this year’s programme on the IMO’s official Day of the Seafarer page.
