Client Overview
The Association of Core Process Psychotherapists (ACPP) is the professional body for psychotherapists trained in Core Process Psychotherapy and other mindfulness-based approaches. Founded in 2001, the association has over 300 registered practitioners and is an organisational member of the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP). Its website serves as a public directory, helping people find a therapist or supervisor in their area, while also supporting member accreditation and professional development.
ACPP approached Priority Pixels to redesign and rebuild the website from the ground up. The existing site had a cluttered navigation, a dated therapist directory and a backend that made managing memberships and member profiles more complicated than it needed to be. The project included a full redesign and rebuild on WordPress, a brand refresh and WCAG 2.2 AA accessibility compliance.

Web design and Development
UX design
The previous website had an overcrowded navigation with too many top-level items, each leading to its own set of sub-pages. For visitors trying to find a local therapist, there were multiple routes to the same information. The ‘Find a Therapist’ section alone was split across separate pages for search, a map view, online services and a full register of members.
We reorganised the navigation around five clear areas. Find a Therapist/Supervisor, Core Process Psychotherapy, About ACPP, Join ACPP and Member Login. Pages that previously overlapped were consolidated, and a prominent homepage search bar now lets users find a therapist or supervisor without navigating elsewhere first. The structure guides two distinct audiences, people looking for support and practitioners looking to join, toward their goals with minimal friction.
Brand refresh
Alongside the rebuild, we carried out a brand refresh for ACPP. This included enhancements to the existing logo and the development of brand guidelines with defined assets and a colour palette tied to the association’s established identity.
The visual direction reflects the nature of ACPP’s work. Imagery throughout draws on natural, calming photography such as open landscapes, water, trees and plant life, in keeping with an organisation rooted in mindfulness-based practice. The overall aesthetic is clean and considered, supporting the content without competing with it.
WordPress development
We built the website on WordPress using a bespoke, hand-coded theme with no reliance on third-party page builders. Accessibility was considered throughout the design and build, with the website’s core structure, navigation, forms and page templates developed to align with WCAG 2.2 AA standards.
A large part of the development focused on the membership system. ACPP has 10 membership tiers, each with different permissions and profile visibility. The membership plugin was customised to allow members to manage their own profiles, update their details and handle membership changes directly. This had been one of the client’s biggest frustrations with the old site.
The directory is integrated with the membership system, so when a member updates their profile the changes are reflected in the public-facing listing automatically. The site is fully responsive, tested across modern browsers and devices and the admin interface was built for clarity so the ACPP team can manage content and membership records without technical support.
Therapist and supervisor directory
The directory sits at the centre of the ACPP website, connecting people looking for therapeutic support with qualified practitioners in their area. The new directory includes distance-based searching by postcode, with filters for session type, client type, wheelchair accessibility, areas of expertise, concession availability and trainee status. The same filtering system applies to the supervisor directory, giving members a consistent experience.
