Priority Pixels Partners with Citizens Advice Somerset

Citizens Advice Somerset is an independent charity that offers free advice to people across the county. We’re delighted to be working with them. Based in Taunton and part of the national Citizens Advice network, the charity helps thousands of people every year with everyday issues such as money, benefits, consumer rights and housing. It also runs specialist programmes for people facing crisis, young adults aged 16 to 24 and communities working to improve food resilience. For many people in Somerset, it’s a trusted first port of call at some of the most difficult moments in life.

We’re redesigning and rebuilding their website from the ground up. As with every project we take on, the new site will be custom coded in WordPress. Building the website with code means there’s no need for bloated page builders or templates. This results in a platform that’s faster, more secure and far easier to maintain for years to come. This includes web design and WordPress development, plus the accessible structure and secure forms an advice service needs.

For a service like this, accessibility and data protection aren’t details to bolt on at the end. They shape the whole build. Citizens Advice Somerset is a free advice service. The people who use it are often dealing with money worries, benefits problems or the threat of losing their home. Many rely on assistive technology or have low confidence online. The website has to work for everyone who turns to it, not just most people. It also handles sensitive personal information every day. People place a lot of trust in the charity, and the website has to protect that information just as carefully.

We’ve shaped the build around exactly that. The new website will meet WCAG 2.2 AA accessibility standards as a baseline. Application forms will be custom built, with data protection designed in from the start. Navigation and content will be kept clear and simple, so people can find the right help quickly. The aim is a site that’s accessible, secure and clear for the people who need it most. It means every resident can rely on it, whatever they’re dealing with and however they browse.

Underpinning all of this is a solid organic SEO foundation, clean semantic code and managed WordPress hosting, as well as maintenance and security. These foundations keep the site fast, safe and visible long after launch.

This is exactly the type of project we love. It’s technically demanding, built for real people and genuinely useful to the community it serves. We’re looking forward to working closely with the team at Citizens Advice Somerset over the coming months to deliver a website that reflects the brilliant work they do.
