Celebrate National Coding Week 2025 with Priority Pixels
National Coding Week 2025 runs from 15 to 21 September 2025. Founded in 2014, the week encourages schools, businesses and individuals to run, or take part in, free coding workshops and digital activities that build confidence in the technology shaping our everyday lives. You can find events and resources on the official National Coding Week website.
This year’s theme centres on AI-powered tools enhancing, rather than replacing, coding abilities. That is a welcome framing for a week that has always been about accessibility. Generative AI has changed how a lot of us write code, but it has not removed the need to understand what is going on under the bonnet. The best use of these tools comes from people who can read what they produce, spot when it is wrong and make the judgement call about what to keep.
Why participate
In today’s digital economy, coding is a skill that opens doors rather than simply opening a career path. Understanding code helps you build websites, develop apps and automate repetitive work. In a world where AI assistants now write most first drafts, it also puts you in a position to review and improve that output with confidence. If you want a concrete way to start, our notes on how to optimise for ChatGPT, Gemini and Copilot walk through the prompting habits that separate useful AI output from the rest.
How you can get involved
- Online learning: Take advantage of the many free resources available during National Coding Week. Platforms like Codecademy, freeCodeCamp and Coursera offer courses for every level.
- Community events: Look out for local coding events and webinars where you can learn, share experiences and connect with others who are getting started.
- Team building: If you are part of a team or organisation, consider running a short coding challenge, lunch and learn or workshop. A two-hour session builds curiosity without committing anyone to a career change.
- Social media: Join the conversation with #NationalCodingWeek to share what you are learning and see what others are trying.
Where coding still matters to an agency
Websites, integrations and campaigns still run on code, whatever the theme of the week. We build and maintain client platforms through our web development team, and the volume of work around WordPress development has only gone up as AI has reshaped how content reaches the page. The developers on our team use generative tools alongside their existing skills to ship faster, catch more mistakes and spend more time on the interesting problems.
Get started this week
There has never been a lower barrier to entry. Whether you are picking up a new hobby, trying to move your career forward or simply want to understand the tools that now write so much of what appears on your screen, National Coding Week is a good week to start.
