How to Increase Your Likes and Comments On Facebook in 2019

Posted: 20th August 2019

As a social media marketing agency we are always on the lookup for ways to increase likes and comments. Facebook is one of the largest social media platforms, reported to have 2.4 billion active users every month. If you’re not using it as part of your online marketing strategy you should consider it, or risk falling behind your competitors. The platform is a great place for brand promotion, keeping up with trends and interacting with your audience. Getting set up on Facebook is easy, unfortunately that’s where the easy part ends. Encouraging interaction with your posts and increasing your Facebook likes and comments requires more work.

Increasing your engagement on Facebook is achievable when the correct measures are taken. By being consistent, knowing exactly what you are going to post and using Facebook’s tools and features to your advantage.

Create Engaging Content

This is the most obvious piece of advice but the most important, your posts need to be engaging. Some well established companies can get away with choosing quantity over quality. Their audience will respond no matter what they post but for a new business this will not work for you. You need to be creating engaging and content of value from the start and there are multiple ways you can do this;

Start a blog and share it

Writing a blog is a great way to start creating content that you can share with your followers. It can provide them with valuable content and information without asking for anything in return. Blogging allows you to easily share news or trends happening in your industry. Which starts conversations between your followers. Creating a blog is also a great way to share your knowledge and demonstrate your expertise on a subject.

Create videos (with subtitles)

Videos have become an extremely popular media type online. Creating videos can seriously increase your chances of engagement and getting new likes on your Facebook page. Creating videos can be achieved without having to spend thousands on equipment and software. Most mobile phones have high quality cameras and there are various free video editing software available for PC and Mac. Examples of such software include HitFilm Express and iMovie which are both fully capable.

Why should you include subtitles?

Many people browse social media in public places or on public transport. Due to their environment it’s likely they will have their media output set too silent, as a result of including subtitles to your video, it will increase the chance of them watching your videos whilst out and about.

Create image based content

Just like video, images are popular among Facebook users and are easily shared. There are lots of ways to use images to create engaging content including infographics, inspiring quotes and funny photos. Everyone loves memes! Engaging images can easily be created for free with the likes of Canva.

Use Facebook’s Tools To Your Advantage

Live Video

Although not a new technology live video has seen a huge increase in popularity over the past few years. Facebook Live creates an opportunity to interact with your audience on a more personal level. Viewers are more likely to comment on a live video then a pre-recorded one due to the fact it gives a raw and instant reaction from the person behind the camera.

Top fan badges

Enabling top fan badges on your page is a great way to encourage people to interact with your content. Top fan badges are rewarded to your most active followers, the people who like, comment and share your posts. This is such a simple feature and doesn’t require a lot of work its just a simple case of enabling it. Top Fans can be extremely beneficial as it gives people a sense of importance and achievement. It encourages people to engage with your channel to acquire this status.

Facebook Stories

You might be familiar with this tool on Facebook’s sister platform; Instagram. A short video or image that disappears after 24 hours of posting. Disappearing images have grown in popularity since Snapchat become such a popular social media platform among younger audiences. Instagram saw this success and implemented it into their own platform which eventually migrated to Facebook.

You have probably noticed it’s easy to get lost in the news feed on Facebook. Using Facebook Stories is a great way to stand out for the simple reason; they sit at the top of the application. Stories are the first thing people see when they open the web or mobile app. Using stories is a great way to engage with your audience and increase your Facebook pages likes.

There’s so many reasons as to why it’s beneficial for your business to use Stories. You can create time sensitive content or run exclusive promotions only available for a limited time.

Do you have a new product coming out that you want to create hype around? Maybe you have a big promotional offer coming up that you want to make a big about? Facebook Premieres is a great tool to use to achieve this. Premieres allows you to broadcast a pre-recorded video live to your followers, which is then saved for playback at a later time.

When you schedule a Premiere, a notification will be sent out to your followers to let them know when to tune in. Upon going live, a countdown will begin to your video, creating excitement and anticipation. Premieres are more than just a gimmick and YouTube have also caught on to this and have a similar feature.

Use Hashtags

Hashtags are one of those things that everyone does. It looks tacky and might be considered an unoriginal marketing tactic but the reality is using hashtags for marketing works. When used correctly. If your goal is to reach everyone and anyone you are likely to use the most popular hashtags to achieve this. If this is the case then you are part of the problem as to why hashtags have a bad reputation.

To get more likes and comments from people who might actually be interested in your business it is important to use hashtags that are relevant. This will result in real interaction and genuine engagements. It’s better for your businesses to get 1 person who might actually be interested in your service as opposed to 20 people who aren’t. Remember, the aim is to increase likes to your Facebook page with an audience that is genuinely interested. As a result engagement will come naturally.

When using hashtags on Facebook use them sparingly, studies claim that using more than two hashtags will see a drop in engagements however on Instagram where the number of hashtags does not seem to affect engagements.

Facebooks Ads

Without expert knowledge to increase your engagements and likes on Facebook organically is tough. If you have a budget to work with you might consider running ads across your content. Again without the right know how this isn’t a quick solution you can just throw money at and hope for the best.

Creating a successful ad campaign involves thorough research and strategic planning, alongside the creation of engaging content. Running ads on Facebook isn’t a one time thing, just like most things in life it will require on-going time and effort.

Final Thoughts

It is completely possible to gain a following on Facebook even with the ever changing features and algorithms however there will never be a specific plan that guarantees success for everyone. As as result it comes to social media it can be a long game that will be the result of a lot of trial and error. The main takeaway is to be consistent, remain relevant and keep persevering.
