1 Million Minutes: United Communities with Health Connections Mendip
Posted: 10th December 2021
Once again Good Morning Britain’s 1 Million Minutes is back for its sixth consecutive year. The campaign actively encourages people across the UK to donate their time to a local organisation or charity, with the specific theme this year focusing on the fight against social isolation and loneliness.
For many, Christmas is the most joyous time of the year. However, for others it can be incredibly lonely. In our modern digital age, community and connection have never been so important. The team at Priority Pixels are big supporters of the 1 Million Minutes campaign, and that’s why this year we’re highlighting the incredible work of our client, Health Connections Mendip.

The premise is simple, yet effective. Essentially Health Connections Mendip works to combat loneliness and social isolation in our communities through a web-based directory. The idea was born from the need to connect people to local resources close by.
Anyone can access the directory, including people working within the healthcare system. Doctors and nurses for example, can use the website to connect their patients with support groups, counselling and classes. It’s a place where people struggling with their mental and/or physical health can connect with others near to them and build a support network. The directory is also accessible for people simply searching for local activities or classes.
In light of GMB’s efforts to combat loneliness in our communities, there’s never been a better time to get involved with Health Connections Mendip. If you run a social prescribing project in your area, you are a Primary Care Network or town/district council you can find out more about the Health Connections model here.
Write to your local MP. Start your own community organisation. Pledge your minutes – change starts on the ground.
